The annual 500 mile race held each Memorial Day weekend in Indianapolis was a sight unseen before by the two virgin Duncansons. Their cherries were popped bright and early, arriving at the welcoming Allens’ just before 7:30 am. Breakfast, dinner, dessert, and plenty of booze was shoved tightly into 4 regulation-sized coolers, and off they went to meet who? The police, of course.
You see, the American law enforcement system is a just one. This was proven when a kind IPD officer shrugged his shoulders at the mention of a friend’s stolen entry tickets but whose face lit up like the 4th of July night sky when a check was written to the police department. A check for a police escort. A check to lead and tail us right into the Indianapolis Motor Speedway parking lot. Yes, folks, a short string of cars, ours included, was preceded and followed by IPD cars with their lights and sirens full-on, never slowing to one second slower than 30 mph, running red lights, and even driving on the wrong side of the road. It was not unlike a high speed funeral.

After our kind escort in, we set up camp, make breakfast & bloody marys, sat, drank, gamed, & chatted until about noon, at which time we packed it in to the track itself. Choosing to sit on blankets in the infield, we literally walked right under the track while cars were racing, picked a spot, made camp, & continued boozing.
After lunch, with sunburns to boot, we packed it in, walked back, and finished the evening grilling out our pre-packed dinner at Jess & Jim’s babyless, dogless abode. In summary, a great day was had by all! Check out all the photos on the EVENTPICS page.
