The weather on October 15th was perfect for running. Lining up on the start, waiting for the starters' horn, a huge military plane gave us a wonderful flyby. (Take that Kim Jong-Il: you're not the only one who can show off military might). It would be fair to say that the first 14 miles were fairly comfortable for Phil. But all good things must come to an end. Still running at 3 hour 30 minute pace by the 20 mile marker, but very much into uncharted territory leg-wise, a slow-down was inevitable. After hitting the mythical "wall" at the 21 mile mark and wondering if he'd ever walk again, Phil would go on to finish the race in 3 hours 42 mins 59 seconds. It's fair to say that he's very pleased to post that time for a first marathon. Yes running a marathon is as difficult as it sounds, but often the harder a challenge, the greater the reward. This is certainly true of running a marathon. It may be your legs that carry you to the finish line, but, for Phil, it's impossible to get there without a strong attitude. Next stop: Nashville April 28th, 2007. The Marathon Strikes Back.
